AT Protocol account guides

An account for compatible apps.

What does the host provide?

Your Personal Data Server, or PDS, stores your account's repository and files. It handles sign-in and authorization for compatible apps. Link Jar is one such app; the account and the app are separate.

The Link Jar account server's source and technical documentation are public for developers who want to inspect the hosting implementation.

A new hosted account uses a name such as @yourname.linkjar.social and has a permanent identifier called a DID. Read how accounts, apps and hosts fit together.

How do I join?

You need an invitation during the beta. If someone shared an invitation, open it or enter its code on the invitation gate. You can also sign in with an existing account.

You do not need to move your existing Bluesky account to use the Link Jar app. Start with the web app or browser extension.

What does it cost?

Hosting is currently free during the invite-only beta. Future pricing has not been announced here. The current upload limit is 50 MiB per file, and rate limits apply.

The beta has no promised uptime, recovery-time or support-response deadline. Read the hosting terms and check host status.

What can the host see?

Public AT Protocol records are public. The host also handles account information, sign-in methods, request metadata and online signing material.

Link Jar encrypts private saves on your device before storage. Metadata such as timing and size remains visible, and requested previews, capture and AI features have separate data flows. Read the privacy policy.

Can I leave or change my handle?

Migration to a compatible host can preserve your DID. It requires records, referenced files and identity changes. A .linkjar.social handle belongs to this domain and may need to change when you leave.

Read the migration guide and custom-domain handle guide. For help with an account move, email hello@linkjar.io. Never send credentials or your Private Jar Recovery Kit.
